As audio professionals and enthusiasts, being able to accurately identify specific frequencies is an invaluable skill. It help’s in both live and production work. There are some good, free tools online that can help anyone improve this skill, and I’m going to share some of the Heavyweight Bass Producer Group favourites. Try them out, you’re mixing will thank you for it!!
So here we go:
- EQ Your EARS – A simple, but effective web tone generator that will play a tone and you pull back on the corresponding fader.
- Simple Feedback Trainer – SFT is a downloadable application that simulates the process of “ringing out” a sound system and helps you recognise frequencies by ear.
- Harman’s How to Listen – Another piece of software that will pay various timbral, spatial and dynamic distortions heard with audio and ask you to identify them.
