On the left a narrow Q boost. On the right a wide Q boost.
There’s no hard and fast rules when it comes to EQ, but try the following as it will normally lead to better results.
Instead of using a really narrow bandwidth Q to boost frequencies, try using one that’s much wider. Narrow Q’s are great for surgical cuts and corrections, but they are not getting to enough frequencies at once, and this will basically lead to the audio being worked on to develop a very unnatural sound.
