What do Emeli Sande’, Professor Green, Dot Rotten, Tinchy Stryder, Wretch 32, Jessie J, Lily Allen, Dappy and Ed Sheeran all have in common? They have all worked with London based number 1 chart topping producers and song writers TMS. And here’s a vocal tip from Froe, you lucky so n so’s!!!!
“Ez Klaus…Read your tips, thought I’d add one for fun!”
L1 vocal tip….

Waves Legendary L1…
“If you have a big page of vocals…. Leads/Bvs, all the rest and want to get a nice healthy/equal level on them all.
- Put a high pass filter at between 70 – 90 hz to get rid of any unwanted rumble/pops
- Play the arrangement all of the way through with your mixer page open. Once done do not close your mixer page, you should have peak values for each track left on the meters.
- Put an L1 with the output ceiling at -12 on every channel.
- Subtract 4 DB off the peak value left on each channel and transfer this to the threshold of each L1.
Now all of your channels will be at a reasonable level and all will have the highest peaks removed. What I tend to do next is put a similar bit of minimal compression on every channel and you don’t have to play with individual thresholds. Then you can add any extra FX to taste!”
Bosh
Thank you very much Froe, love it!!!!
